Takiyuddin Hassan says Putrajaya is still waiting for the opposition to submit the names of three candidates for the committee.

PETALING JAYA: De facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan says the opposition has yet to make a decision on three candidates to be appointed to an independent committee that is being created to advise Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Covid-19 and when the state of emergency should end.

The independent committee will be made up of government and opposition deputies, as well as relevant experts.

Takiyuddin said the government is still waiting for Pakatan Harapan to submit the names of three candidates. “For the government candidates, their names have already been submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said in a television interview.

On Thursday, PH confirmed that it had received an invitation letter to join the committee.

PH Secretary General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the letter was received by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday.

Takiyuddin said the King had consented to the state of emergency on the advice of the Prime Minister, after consulting with relevant authorities such as the Director General of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah and Inspector General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador, among others , before making the decision.
