He answered questions posed by netizens as to why the two General Operations Force (GOF) staff members of the Senoi Praaq team were not wearing bulletproof vests and were only armed with Walther P99 pistols.

The two corporals, Baharuddin Ramli, 54, who died and his partner Norihan Tari, 39, who was seriously injured, were promoted to the rank of sergeant after the 3.10am incident.

Acyrl Sani said the Bukit Aman Department of Homeland Security and Public Order was reviewing the current SOP for patrol service, intelligence work and prevention operations to ensure the safety of officers, staff and the public.

In addition to that, he said that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) had requested 36 new armored personnel carriers (APCs) to ensure the safety of personnel conducting patrols in the border areas in Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and the Command of Eastern Sabah Security.

“The application was submitted last year and we hope that for the first stage we can obtain 10 units of APCs,” he said, adding that some of the current APCs have been used for more than 40 years.- Bernama
