Anything you can do, can I do better? Now Perodua didn’t say that, but it feels a bit like that. Following Proton’s quick release of October sales figures last night, P2 has followed suit, and the market leader’s sales performance not only knocks everyone out of the water, but also their previous record high.

In October, Perodua posted the highest monthly sales in its 27-year history with 26,852 units. The previous monthly record was set last month, 25,035 units in September. Of the total, Perodua sold 8,052 Myvis, 6,738 Axias, 6,895 Bezzas, 3,193 Aruz and 1,974 Alzas in October. Myvi, Axia and Bezza are Malaysia’s best-selling models so far this year.

“In September, we sold more vehicles in one month than in our entire 27-year history and now we have gone even further. This milestone is important to us in many ways; underscores our commitment to deliver our vehicles to their rightful owners as quickly as possible while doing our part to rejuvenate the automotive ecosystem, ”said Perodua President and CEO Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

Sales aside, P2 is very proud of its contribution to the local automotive ecosystem. “In October alone, we purchased RM 600 million worth of parts from local suppliers, thus creating a huge economic multiplier effect on the local automotive ecosystem, which has also been affected by the pandemic we now face,” Zainal Abidin noted. outside.

The automotive ecosystem includes direct and indirect sectors, such as automotive component suppliers, authorized distributors, stockists, agencies, and contractors. Indirect, but crucial, partners include financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies. For a bit of context on purchasing RM600m parts, Proton plans to purchase RM1.8b worth of local parts for the X50 program in a full year.

You need cars to sell cars. That sounds elementary, but with the sales boom created by the government’s sales tax exemption scheme, many automakers can’t do it fast enough. The Perodua plants in Rawang are at full steam as we speak.

“In terms of production capacity, we are on average at 98% in October 2020 with 26,362 vehicles, which is also our highest monthly production figure, produced at our manufacturing facilities here in Sungai Choh,” Zainal Abidin said, adding that P2 has been following standard operating procedures like working from home and mandatory testing for those in red zones.

“With the commitment of the suppliers, our dealers were able to sell more vehicles and, more importantly, guarantee the happiness of our customers since their Perodua vehicles were delivered in the best possible time,” he added.

By the way, Perodua has a promotion in addition to the SST waiver savings, specifically a “cash back” (rebate) of up to RM1,500 for the Aruz during November. There are also cash refunds of up to RM2,000 for your used vehicles until December 31st. This POV offer is only available at the point of sale in Jalan Pahang, KL.
