Perhaps Xavier’s resignation ‘not linked’ to his friend’s MACC case, makes fun of Najib

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak cited various reports on the MACC investigation into Perak PKR Vice President MA Tinagaran, a close friend of Xavier Jayakumar.

PETALING JAYA: Former Prime Minister Najib Razak used a mocking post on his Facebook in an immediate reaction to the resignation of Kuala Langat MP Dr. Xavier Jayakumar from PKR this morning.

Najib referred to various news reports of an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) involving Perak PKR Vice President MA Tinagaran, who was arrested for corruption last month.

“YB (Xavier) was linked to the MACC case where his good friend was arrested for a case, in which RM1.2 million in cash was seized, RM77 million were frozen in bank accounts and several luxury cars were seized.

“This is the news from last month, maybe his resignation has nothing to do with it,” Najib said.

Last month, Tinagaran was detained by MACC on suspicion of accepting bribes from various companies for a project awarded to him by the Ministry of Water, Lands and Natural Resources in 2019 when Xavier was in command.

MACC had said the arrested man was linked to him, but Xavier later clarified that Tinagaran was only “a close family friend” and not his aide, as previously reported.

Xavier announced his resignation from PKR this morning, saying that he would continue to serve his constituency and support the current government as an independent deputy.

The Kuala Langat MP’s resignation comes after two other elected PKR representatives, Julau MP Larry Sng and Tebrau MP Steven Choong, resigned from the party last month and declared their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
