Perak Ruler grants royal pardon and early release to two prisoners

IPOH: Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah of Perak has granted a royal pardon and early release along with his 64th birthday.

The secretary of the Perak Board of Pardons, Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, said the two prisoners, whose respective prison terms would end on May 18, 2022 and June 24, 2023, would be released on Friday (November 6, 2023). ).

Suaidi, who is also secretary of state, said His Royal Highness was pleased with reports that both prisoners have learned their lessons and vowed to change for the better.

“The Sultan had chaired the board meeting on Tuesday (November 3) where 12 appeals were submitted for consideration.

“Having considered the reports of the Department of Prisons, as well as the opinions of the Attorney General and the members of the board, Sultan Nazrin is satisfied that the two prisoners have repented of their actions and have pledged to be good,” he said in a statement Thursday. (November 5th).

Sultan Nazrin also warned that a punishment that was sentenced was meant to be a lesson for people to respect the law.

“A pardon or a reduction of the sentence imposed by the court will only be considered if the prisoner has shown that he has repented, has shown good behavior in prison and also shows the determination to restart a new life,” he added.
