Call it hit, hard or not, but the “Perak Move” proves only one thing. All the claims by politicians that they were doing things for the unity of the Ummah or in the interests of the nation and the rakyat, to justify their cunning maneuvers, are simply nonsense.
Who would have thought that the 25 Umno assemblymen in the Perak state assembly who voted against a confidence motion in their coalition’s mentoring would actually turn against someone from their own ummah?
Neither Ahmad Faizal Azumu himself nor the Perikatan Nasional leaders would have expected to be stabbed in the back by their ummah friends. Like many others, I think it may have been orchestrated by Umno’s leadership in an obvious attempt to show PPBM frontman Muhyiddin Yassin a thing or two.
They drove home the point that this could happen nationally and in some other states with a very small majority if certain key positions and power are not given to Umno.
If their earlier exhortations, especially after GE14 – that the majority non-Malay opposition had seized political power and therefore the need for Umno, PAS and PPBM to meet to regain their ‘rightful place’ – was a honest war cry, the drama in Perak would not have played out.
The decision of Faizal’s allies to go for the jugular when he needed them most demonstrated the emptiness of the claims of Muafakat Nasional’s partners that they made the “Sheraton Movement” in February to save race and religion.
They were simply using the supremacy of race and religion in pursuit of the power and privileges that follow.
While the DAP had its many flaws when it was in government, I daresay that MN’s partners had nothing against the party other than the fact that there were “too many” non-Malaysian ministers and deputy ministers for the first time in Malaysia. . history, most of whom were from the party that has been branded Chinese-chauvinist.
It had nothing to do with claims that Malaysians lost their political influence or were removed from high government positions because the overall figures barely changed. Yes, after the 2018 general election, the Attorney General, Finance Minister and Chief Justice were non-Malays or non-Muslim for the first time in decades.
But apart from these positions, nothing was changed. Key heads of the civil service, government-linked companies and the military remained in Malaysian hands, as no one saw the need for change. Still, in less than a year, a Malay Muslim replaced Pakatan Harapan-appointed Chief Justice Richard Malanjun.
So when the PN-controlled state government of Perak collapsed, the orchestrators behind it probably wanted it to be a slap in the face for the prime minister whose party dominates the ruling coalition.
Umno, who is not used to playing a secondary role in politics, wanted to show who is boss and did it in a devastating way: 48 against, 10 in favor and one vote against or absent in the motion of confidence.
The PPBM leadership must have staggered in shock because Faizal was not only the vice president of the dominant party in the PN, he was also the vice president of Muhyiddin and the chairman of the state coalition.
Well, to the credit of the former prime minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, he had warned several times that Muhyiddin would likely be at the mercy of the Umno warlords who are trying to wrest control of the coalition and take on the leadership role. at the federal level.
So here you go, now we saw more betrayals after the ugly “Sheraton Move” that brought Malaysian politics to the lowest levels of hypocrisy, dishonesty and quackery.
Shortly after the lousy move in Perak, Zahid declared that Umno is open to forming a new Perak state government working with the PH parties, even his arch enemy DAP! When this news broke, it had an impact on social media, impacting many supporters of both parties to the core.
In response, a DAP leader, none other than Nga Kor Ming, who had never stopped criticizing Umno in the past, said the party was willing to work with its sworn enemy in the “interest of the people and the nation.” .
So now we have a seemingly nationalistic group of politicians from both sides of the divide announcing that they are willing to make “sacrifices” and be in power to save us, poor rakyat, from the problems of political instability that was caused by all of them!
So all these treacherous political maneuvers, party leaps, displays of power and sleeping with strange bedfellows are being done “in the interest of the rakyat,” it seems.
Do you seriously expect sane Malaysians to believe you? Come on guys, get real. These politicians are sowing so much hatred and discord in our lives with their actions that Malaysians tend to drown in this noise, sadly.
Racial and religious divisions remain fertile ground for hatred and division. Our politicians are doing just that. We will be able to see through their actions if each and every one of us assimilates a true sense of the Malay spirit in us.
If we don’t, the political charlatans will continue to divide us to rule so that they can perpetuate their narrow concept of racial and religious supremacy with their dubious claim to do so for the sake of the rakyat and the nation.
