IPOH: The Perak state government has offered two locations here to be converted into low-risk Covid-19 centers.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that the centers are in Indera Mulia Stadium and Langkap, Teluk Intan.
“We proposed the centers to the state National Security Council (NSC) in an effort to reduce the burden on hospitals.
“We suggest that the centers be used for those who are Covid-19 positive but are not in critical condition or showing any symptoms,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the Secretary of State building here on Thursday. (November 19th).
On Wednesday (November 18) Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that two locations in Ipoh, Zone B and Zone C, will be placed under an improved MCO starting Friday (November 20).
Faizal said the low-risk center at Indera Mulia Stadium can accommodate at least 160 beds.
“We are currently awaiting approval, but the centers are ready to be used.
“In the midst of the outbreak, we will always work closely with the Ministry of Health to help ease its burden,” he said.
Faizal added that a one-stop shop has been set up at Taman Meru 2C in Zone B and Zone C to obtain grocery supplies.
“Since they are under an improved MCO, they are not allowed to go out to buy groceries. They can get groceries and other necessities at the center.
“Before the announcement was made, the Tambun parliamentary service center and the Kinta district office had visited the area and provided some dry and wet food to the residents.
“The decision to declare the area under improved OLS had to be made due to the increase in Covid-19 cases reported in the area and the fact that it is a densely populated area,” he said.
Separately, Faizal announced a special grant awarded to help the state’s small businesses.
“Under Phase 4 of the state’s Economic Stimulus Package, we have approved an allocation of RM9 thousand to help small businesses.
“In addition to the allocation, we are giving a free rent for one month for food stalls and stores registered under local governments.
“This will benefit at least 10,000 small businesses in the state,” he said.
