GEORGE TOWN: Penangites will be able to dine at hotels, shopping malls, and fast food franchises beginning Friday (May 15), says Chow Kon Yeow.

The Chief Minister said that phased dining will be allowed in Penang.

“The first phase will begin on Friday (May 15), and only hotels, shopping malls and fast food franchises will be able to offer food services,” Chow said in a live Covid-19 message on Facebook on Tuesday (12 of may).

He added that restaurants must comply with guidelines to be announced by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) on Wednesday (May 13) after coordinating with the local government and the state Department of Health.

“As for other food outlets, the dinner permit will be refined in phase 2, therefore it is not yet allowed,” he said.

Chow said this is based on advice from the state Department of Health.

He added that this was one of the topics discussed at the last state meeting of the Special Security Committee on Tuesday.

Chow also said that Penang will enter the opening phase of the Penang Gradual Recovery Strategy (PGRS) on Wednesday (May 13).

“All sectors and activities permitted by the Federal Government under the conditional movement control order (MCO) will be allowed in Penang, in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued,” Chow said.

He added that the list of prohibited activities continues to be the one announced by the Federal Government, adding that activities that are not on the list are prohibited.

Chow also said that the local executive council, local authorities, the Social Security Organization (Perkeso), the Malaysian Department of Occupational Health (DOSH), the Penang National Security Council (MKN) will simplify the implementation of POE in relation to screening tests on construction workers. sites and manufacturing sector before announcing it in the near future.

He said this will be done with the state Department of Health as a technical advisor.

Chow also said that several parks will remain closed.

Penang City Park, Relau Metropolitan Park and Island Botanical Garden, Vision Park, Mengkuang Dam, Kamloon Beach, Air Itam Dalam Educational Forest, Cerok Tokun National Park, Panchor Forest Reserve Hill and the Bukit Juru Forest Reserve on the mainland will remain closed, “he said.

Chow also said that sports complexes, stadiums and public rooms will be closed and recreational activities will be limited to pocket parks in residential areas.

He added that regarding congregational prayers, the state government will use the POEs established by the Federal Government and that these POEs will also apply to other religions.

“Regarding the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, we take into consideration the advice of the director of the state Department of Health that no more than seven guests are allowed in flats and apartments.
