GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has expressed its appreciation to the National Security Council for considering a proposal from the state security committee to carry out selective closures in lieu of blanket restrictions under the conditional movement control order.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state committee had submitted a request for the implementation of CMCO only in specific locations, such as mukim (sub-district) or affected localities.
“Through the announcement made by Chief Minister of Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob tonight, the CMCO will only be extended to Mukim 12 in the southwest district and Mukim 13 in the northeast district from December 7 to 20.
“Meanwhile, the Enhanced Motion Control Order (EMCO) will be implemented in two localities in the red zone, namely flats in Persiaran Paya Terubong, Relau and Flat Desa Bistari Blocks A and B, Batu Uban,” he said today a statement.
He said that 10,000 people were expected to be affected in the apartments in Persiaran Paya Terubong, Relau, and 2,300 people in the Desa Bistari apartments, Blocks A and B, in Batu Uban.
Chow said the police would be responsible for implementing controls at the sites with the help of the military, civil defense and Rela volunteers.
He said that the state health department had declared the need to implement EMCO in both localities to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among the local population and not allow a risk of transmission to the surrounding communities, ”he said.
He urged all residents of EMCO towns to cooperate with the security forces and also with the service personnel of the district health office.
