The Department of Veterinary Services says that studies show that chickens do not transmit Covid-19 to humans.

PUTRAJAYA: All test results on whole chicken samples from the Pedas poultry processing factory, Negeri Sembilan, have shown negative results for Covid-19.

In a statement today, the Department of Veterinary Services (VSD) said the samples were analyzed using the reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method after several factory workers were infected with the virus.

The factory was also ordered to suspend all operations from May 7 to 20.

The VSD said studies by international agencies and institutions, including the University of Macao and the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health, had shown that cattle such as cattle, goats, pigs and chickens do not transmit the Covid virus. -19 to humans.

In fact, studies published in various international journals have shown that Covid-19 infection is caused by the SARS-Cov-2 virus from the beta-coronavirus group, while the virus found in poultry species such as chicken is from the gammacoronavirus group.

“The virus in the betacoronavirus group cannot infect bird species because it has different receptors.”

Because of this, he said, members of the public should not worry about consuming chicken.
