KUALA LUMPUR: Pecca Group Bhd (Pecca) has confirmed that some of the production staff at its subsidiary, Pecca Leather Sdn Bhd (PLSB) tested positive for COVID-19 in a recent assessment conducted by the company.
In a presentation to Bursa Malaysia today, Pecca said that PLSB in response to the results carried out an immediate assessment of 597 employees, as well as contact follow-up and quarantine measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
In addition, PLSB has strengthened protective and physical distancing measures, organized separate accommodation arrangements for unaffected employees, and carried out disinfection and sanitation activities in production areas and common spaces.
“To safeguard the safety of employees and facilities, PLSB also decided to close shop floor operations from December 21-27, 2020,” it said.
As of December 21, all smear test results received indicated 246 positive cases and affected employees are receiving necessary medical care, while close contacts are in quarantine and will undergo further testing.
To date, no positive cases have been seen among office workers, he added.
“The costs for smear tests, quarantine measures and disinfection processes are estimated to be RM500,000.
“The impact of the 7-day production shutdown is expected to be limited to less than five percent of the 2021 group’s financial year revenue,” he said.
Pecca said that pending further developments within this period and further consultation with the Ministry of Health, PLSB aims to resume production operations no later than December 28, 2020. – Bernama
