KUALA LUMPUR: Up-and-coming national women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah have vowed to do better in their next outing following a commendable performance at the 2021 All England Badminton Championships recently.
Although it was only their first foray into the world’s oldest badminton tournament, the unseeded duo remained nervous and struggled to make a statement as they reached the last eight, before retiring 12-21, 22-20, 16-21 against Nami Matsuyama. -Chiharu Shida from Japan, last night.
Thinaah described her journey at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham as an exciting experience and vowed to train harder after managing to identify some weaknesses that led to her departure.
“I think we made a lot of mistakes and gave away too many free points to our opponents last night.
“They had a rhythm and were very aggressive throughout the game, so it helped them kill us on the rubber set. Overall, we learned a lot from this tournament, ”he said in a video posted by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in its Facebook page today.
Commenting on their remarkable second set comeback, Pearly said they always supported each other during crucial periods of the match, which saw them relive their chances to try to upset the world’s 12th duo.
“We never gave up and tried to save every shot until we managed to get back into the game after the second set.
“We got a lot of valuable experience and we were happy to be at All England,” he said. – Bernama
