PBS’s Joniston Bangkuai says PAS’s Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh should apologize.

KOTA KINABALU: PAS MP Pasir Puteh Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh has come under more criticism for his comments on the Bible, and PBS chief information officer Joniston Bangkuai said Zawawi’s comments were “seditious and unforgivable.”

Joniston said Zawawi’s statement is unfounded and could cause divisions between Malaysians of different races and religions. “Instead of making unsubstantiated statements, we must support and promote tolerance and practice a culture of mutual respect at all times,” he added.

Last week, in a debate by Dewan Rakyat on the proposed higher penalties for driving under the influence, Zawawi had said that the biblical injunctions on drinking had been “distorted or altered”, prompting a widespread reprimand. by Christian associations and politicians.

Parti Warisan Sabah General Treasurer Terrence Siambun and Vice President of the United Progressive Organization of Kinabalu (Upko) Donald Mojuntin have also spoken out against Zawawi’s statement, while in Sarawak, three state leaders of DAP pressed for a police investigation.

Siambun said the comments would negatively affect PAS allies during the upcoming state elections, while Mojuntin urged Zawawi to retract his statement.

Joniston said it was normal for multi-faith families in Sabah and Sarawak to sit down and spend time together without any problems. “… Such is our high level of tolerance and mutual respect, and that is why statements like these have never been heard in East Malaysia,” he said.

“We join the call for you to openly apologize. Having said that, we hope that Malaysians do not get carried away by the superficial definition set by some people with twisted minds and vested interests, ”he said.
