PETALING JAYA: The National Association of Patriots (Patriota) calls for further investigation into the 2013 Lahad Datu raid that resulted in the deaths of civilians and military personnel.
President Brig-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji (Photo) said a new indictment regarding the facts of the incident requires further investigation, adding that the truth must be told.
“Patriot believes that the conduct of our security forces during the February-March 2013 incident was magnanimous. They had obeyed orders. Where it made a mistake was the interference of ministers who behaved like generals.
“The true generals and ground commanders should have enjoyed freedom without political interference. The orders should have been to shoot to kill and not to negotiate with armed foreign intruders, as we have mentioned in our previous statements,” he said in a statement. statement on Thursday (September 24).
Mohamed Arshad said the latest allegation surrounding the incident was “cause for grave concern”.
“It has been alleged that land was promised to so-called armed intruders and that they had come to claim the land. It was also alleged that the incident occurred because certain Moorish factions were unhappy with the peace agreement; and promises broken in the peace talks. Moro in Kuala Lumpur and the Moro peace accord in Manila in October 2012, where our nation played a role, ”he said.
Mohamed Arshad claimed that Reuters reports at the time had shown that what was reported in the Philippines did not corroborate with what was reported in Malaysia.
As such, he said it would be “shocking” if the allegations about the promise of land in Sabah to intruders were true.
“Key members of the cabinet at that time have a lot to answer for if it’s true,” he said.
Mohamed Arshad also lashed out at critics who had claimed that Patriot had not convicted Lahad MP Datu Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi for his comments against the security forces who had fought during the Lahad Datu intrusion.
Mohamed Arshad said the barrage of criticism from political opponents should have taught Mohamaddin his lesson, adding that they had enough wisdom when it came to semantics and the use of rhetorical language in politics.
On Monday, a video by Mohamaddin was widely released saying that the 2013 shooting between Sulu militants and Malaysian security forces in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu was “just a show” to win votes and help Barisan Nasional win. the 13th general election.
In his speech, he claimed that military aircraft and tanks were deployed to Kampung Tanduo, about 37 km from Lahad Datu city, to fight the invaders, but instead destroyed the oil palm plantations.
Mohamaddin said the only enemies the military had to fight were “chickens and dogs” and claimed the “show” had ended after the results of GE13 were announced.
He also claimed that in his travels to the area, he had never encountered an invader attempting to claim Sabah as his own.
He had since apologized for the matter saying that he never intended to insult anyone, and that he was not belittling the sacrifices of the security forces, adding that his comments were taken out of context.
Since then, Acting Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has also apologized for Mohamaddin’s comments.
Mohamed Arshad also noted that the illegal immigrant problems in Sabah had dragged on for decades, noting that the Lahad Datu incident was closely related to illegal immigrants.
“The Lahad Datu incident, which was related to the problem of illegal immigrants, should not have happened if only there had been political will to solve the problem. Lessons must be learned and it must start with integrity and honesty in government. .
“In addition, the presence of illegal immigrants is also a threat to security and feeling sorry in the future will be too late,” he said.
