PETALING JAYA: Umno’s chief information officer, Shahril Hamdan, says the party should not waste time talking about a future with PAS that does not include PPBM.
In a Facebook post after an interview with PAS Youth Chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin, Shahril said that it was clear that PAS does not intend to abandon Umno or PPBM.
The Islamist party, he said, also does not want confrontations between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional, and wants direct fights with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“If a three-way fight between Umno, PPBM and PH takes place in one area, PAS will find itself in a difficult situation and can reserve its position. The beneficiary will be PH ”.
The PAS, he said, has spoken out on ties with the two Malaysian parties, and Umno could continue to insist that a Umno-PAS alliance is sufficient or respect his ally’s decision that he wants the three parties to stick together.
Shahril said he preferred to respect the PAS position without compromising Umno’s aspirations as the country’s largest national party.
“Umno must be wise and respond to changing dynamics,” he said.
He said he was sure that the PAS will respect the fact that the decisions made by Umno are entirely of the party without coercion.
Earlier, Umno Vice President Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the party did not want to be forced to accept anyone as a political partner.
The former Johor menteri kissing also said that the Umno-PAS combination was strong enough to win the upcoming general election.
Shahril said that since PAS’s position was clear, Umno should consider the options available rather than wasting time talking about options that no longer exist.
“There are risk-free options. The important thing is that you have to make a decision so that there is no more confusion. You lose more by indecision than by the wrong decision, ”he said.
