KOTA BHARU: PAS Chairman Abdul Hadi Awang said the party remained strong and intact despite being tested with various challenges, including being betrayed by those who had been with the party before.

In that sense, he explained that the PAS is not just a ‘scale’ that they can leave to pursue something else that would supposedly benefit them, whenever the party is being threatened.

“They made PAS a ‘stopover’ because they wanted an easy win, but PAS stayed intact and never fell. The PAS is mature in politics because we have cooperated with many parties and, despite being abandoned, we remain consistent and continue to mature, ”he said.

Hadi was delivering his final speech at the PAS general assembly in Pengkalan Chepa here today.

He said PAS cooperated with Semangat 46 for the 1990 general election and won in Kelantan. Semangat 46 was later disbanded, but PAS has remained strong in the state until now. He said: “… due to our consistency, we remain strong and finally took over Terengganu and together with the Perikatan Nasional, in Kedah.”

He said the PAS would continue to explain the party’s struggle so that people, especially non-Muslims, can understand the situation and not interpret Islam as out of date.

“This approach is time consuming and very challenging. It’s so they really understand it, ”he said.

PAS Vice President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that the allocation and distribution of electoral seats in the upcoming general elections should not become controversial.

He said that Perikatan Nasional had established an advisory committee for the distribution of seats made up of five people from each party. “At our first meeting, Alhamdulillah, the basics of the discussion seem positive,” he said.
