PAS: Leaders should decide on emergency enforcement, not legal experts and politicians

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision whether or not to enforce a state of emergency to curb Covid-19 should be referred to health and safety experts, rather than politicians and constitutional experts, says PAS President Datuk Seri, Dr. Abdul Hadi Awang.

“This is very important so that decisions are made wisely, instead of going through sources or opinions from a legal, political or economic aspect.

“The current problem must be referred to the real experts. For example, questions about fishermen should not be about farmers. The same goes for spatial knowledge, it should not be referred to geologists.

“Otherwise, the decision made would not be up to par with reality,” said Abdul Hadi.

Abdul Hadi also noted that many of those on the front lines, including health officials, police and members of the military, have become victims of Covid-19 in the performance of their duties.

“And the number of new cases is not decreasing,” he added.

Abdul Hadi said attention should be paid to the true ability of the police and armed forces to enforce the conditional movement control order (MCO) to control the movement of Malaysians as well as to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country.
