PAS Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan called on political allies to remain tolerant and learn from past experiences for the good of the people.

PETALING JAYA: PAS Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan says the party does not want to get involved in any political controversy that could lead to instability, and calls for unity while the leaders of Umno and PPBM began to discuss openly.

In a statement, he said PAS remained committed to strengthening the Muafakat Nasional (MN) alliance with Umno while defending the government of Perikatan Nasional (PN), of which it is now a component party.

“The PAS urges its political allies, especially those in the government, to remain open-hearted, tolerant and learn from past experiences for the good of the people, who need good leadership with integrity.

“PAS believes that only true and sincere unity can lead to a harmonious, developed and united country, and whose people of various races, religions and cultures respect each other.”

He added that all parts of the government must be committed, honest and responsible in the management of the country’s administration, particularly in this difficult time.

Earlier today, former Prime Minister Najib Razak said that Umno cannot get used to his supporting role in the current government administration, warning that this could slowly kill Umno.

Meanwhile, Umno’s Pagoh division unanimously passed a resolution at its annual meeting yesterday, objecting to the decision of the Johor Umno leadership that the party should give PPBM chairman Muhyiddin Yassin a place in Pagoh’s parliamentary seat.

Pulai Umno also became the first division in the country to pass a resolution calling on party leaders to immediately resign from the NP government to force a general election.

The PN government has said that it was reluctant to hold general elections in the current climate as the number of Covid-19 cases has been on the rise. The country saw an increase in the number of cases after the state elections on September 26 in Sabah.
