KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat will rise early at 1 pm from Tuesday (Nov. 3) to Thursday (Nov. 5), following news from some staff members and an aide to a senator who tested positive for Covid -19.

The Minister of the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, made a motion under Standing Order 12 (1) to end the session of Parliament earlier.

The motion was supported by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Takiyuddin also made a motion to move the Special Chamber meetings to 11:30 a.m. M. From today (November 3) until Thursday.

Opposition lawmaker Datuk Mahfuz Omar (PH-Pokok Sena) requested clarification on the number of auxiliary police officers and whether such individuals have interacted with anyone in Dewan Rakyat.

He also asked if the police officer works under the Prime Minister’s Department, as this could mean that the individual could have interacted with others in the Department.

However, Dewan Rakyat President Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun clarified that the auxiliary policeman was not on duty in Parliament.

“He was stationed elsewhere. He’s from the Prime Minister’s Department, but he didn’t serve there either,” he said.

This follows news reports that seven people were found to be positive for Covid-19 in an assessment conducted before the parliamentary session on Monday (November 2).

An auxiliary police officer was reported to have tested positive and, through contact tracing, three of his colleagues, including his wife, also tested positive.

A person who worked in the media also tested positive.

On Monday, a similar motion was presented and approved in Dewan Rakyat, on the advice of Health Ministry officials.

On Monday, Senator Ras Adiba Radzi said that his sister, Ras Afiona Radzi, who is also his special assistant, had tested positive.

Ras Adiba is now awaiting his Covid-19 detection results.
