KUALA LUMPUR: Parliament has introduced several measures, including the mandatory Covid-19 swab test for legislators and officials every fortnight.
In a message, Dewan Rakyat’s spokesperson, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun (Photo) said that the necessary measures were being taken to ensure that the process in the august Chamber proceeded safely.
The message, read by Vice President Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, also mentioned that Parliament could be closed if positive cases are detected.
“If positive cases are detected in the Parliament complex, the Ministry of Health will carry out an assessment of the standard operating procedure (SOP).
“It must be remembered that any infection in Parliament can lead to the closure of the Parliament complex, if necessary.
“Parliamentarians and those on duty must be screened for Covid-19 every two weeks.
“Parliament’s administration will issue a notice on this from time to time,” Azalina read at the beginning of the proceedings on Wednesday (November 4) morning.
Azhar had also told lawmakers not to organize large gatherings or gatherings, not outside the premises of the House or Parliament.
If necessary, MPS was told to strictly adhere to the SOP established by the National Security Council and the Ministry of Health.
Azhar also advised lawmakers to limit their movements while outside Parliament’s premises throughout the process and avoid crowded places.
The president also thanked the Ministry of Health and leaders who have been working hard and advising legislators and Parliament.
Currently, Parliament rises early at 1pm until Thursday (November 5) as a precautionary measure.
This follows four people who are aides to a senator who recently tested positive.
On Monday, Senator Ras Adiba Radzi said that his sister Ras Afiona Radzi, who is also his special assistant, had tested positive.
