JOHOR BARU: Parents welcome the Ministry of Education’s move to temporarily close schools after the Johor Baru district was classified as a red zone following an increase in Covid-19 cases.

Housewife Germaine Yong, 47, said she was surprised by the ministry’s decision, but that her son’s school made it easy for her family to make the necessary preparations.

“The school has been able to organize online classes and the teachers are very dedicated, as they still give information and respond to inquiries even late at night,” he said.
Administrative official Nurul Aisha Mohd Yusoff, 33, said the decision to close the schools was timely as Covid-19 was still a threat.
“I had decided not to send my seven-year-old daughter to school for about three weeks because she has asthma and I am concerned about her health,” Nurul said.
She said she and her self-employed husband had a system in place, even during the early stages of the motion control order, to ensure that their daughter’s education was not affected.
“We made sure that he was able to complete all the assignments and lessons that his school gave him,” he said.
On Friday, the Ministry of Education announced that all 376 educational institutions, including public and private schools, professional colleges and educational institutions, in Johor Baru and Kulai districts would be closed for two weeks from today.
Following the announcement, the state government had also made a similar decision to close kindergartens, nurseries (taska), community rehabilitation centers (PDK), activity centers for children and the elderly, as well as religious schools in Johor district. Baru.
The chair of the state committee for women, families and community development, Zaiton Ismail, said 124 registered taska, nine PDKs, 105 day care centers, two activity centers for the elderly and two activity centers for children in Johor Baru would be closed from tomorrow until on November 14.
