Legendary Italian forward Paolo Rossi dies at 64: tributes pour out for the ‘unforgettable’ 1982 World Cup winning star who ‘made us all fall in love that summer’

Paolo Rossi, the star of Italy’s successful 1982 World Cup campaign, tragically passed away at the age of 64.
The death of the former Juventus and AC Milan striker, who won the Golden Boot and the Ballon d’Or in 1982 and played 48 games for his country, was announced at dawn this Thursday by the Italian television channel. RAI sport for whom Rossi had recently worked as an expert.
Rossi won two Serie A titles, a European Cup and a Coppa Italia over four years at Juve, but it is his moment for the team that is most fondly remembered, as his six goals led Italy to victory in Spain 38 years ago.

Rossi scored a total of 20 goals for the Italian national team from 1977 to 1986, and his performances in the latter stages of the ’82 World Cup placed him in Italian folklore.
The forward spent four years at Juventus and was also at AC Milan and Hellas Verona
He scored a hat-trick in the famous 3-2 win against Brazil, scored both goals in the 2-0 semi-final win against Poland and scored the first goal in the final 3-1 win against West Germany in Madrid .
At club level, in addition to Juve and Milan, Rossi played in Como, Vicenza, Perugia, Milan, and Hellas Verona until his retirement in 1987.
Having scored 134 goals in 338 club matches, he is widely regarded as one of the best forwards of his time.
