Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd today revealed that 116 employees at its two manufacturing plants in Shah Alam tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Panasonic’s filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the electronics company said it would temporarily close the facility from December 21 to 23 for disinfection, after being advised to do so by the Petaling District Health Office.
“The company had completed the full assessment of approximately 2,137 workers and employees and only 116 were found to be affected.
“The safety and well-being of our workers and employees, as well as our community, is our top priority in containing the situation,” he said.
Panasonic added that it has been conducting disinfection exercises at its facilities and worker accommodation regularly, and will continue to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to COVID-19.
On December 1, the Malaysian government made screening of all foreign workers mandatory for COVID-19 cases, following an increase in such cases at factories and construction sites.
Since then, the Ministry of Health has been registering new groups of COVID-19 related to the workplace almost daily, including three new groups yesterday.
Malaysia currently has 95,327 confirmed cases with 438 deaths recorded so far. Today 2,018 new cases were reported and 16,496 active cases remain. – Malay Post
