Panasonic confirms 116 employees tested positive for COVID-19 at Shah Alam facility

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 21): Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd announced today that 116 employees at its two manufacturing facilities in Shah Alam had tested positive for Covid-19 in a recent evaluation.

According to Panasonic’s filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the company had completed the full assessment of approximately 2,137 workers and employees, and only 116 were found to be affected.

The Petaling District Health Office advised Panasonic to halt operations for the time being until further notice.

Following the advice, Panasonic decided to close its facilities from today until Wednesday so that disinfection specialists can do their job.

“The safety and well-being of our workers and employees, as well as our community, is our top priority in containing the situation. We have and will continue to adhere to the Covid-19 Preventive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) strictly, “said Panasonic.

Panasonic also said that regular disinfection exercises had been conducted at its manufacturing facilities and worker accommodation, with all necessary precautionary measures strictly in place.

At the time of writing, Panasonic’s share price was four sen or 0.32% lower at RM 31.50, bringing the company’s market capitalization to around RM 1.92 billion. .
