PUTRAJAYA Although only the official media can attend the one-day session of Parliament on May 18, other media despite not being authorized can still report on the session as it will be broadcast live via RTM, the minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
Commenting on various parties demanding that other media organizations be allowed to cover the session, he said the decision was made to ensure that social distancing was carried out in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
“It does not mean that the reports (in the one-day session) are limited. In today’s world we are all producers.
“The ministry is not involved (in making the decision), but I don’t think there is any intention behind it,” he said.
Speaking to reporters after meeting with the Malaysian Digital Economic Corporation (MDEC) and Lazada Malaysia today, Saifuddin said members of the Dewan Rakyat would not sit as usual to comply with social distancing, and that other officials could not Enterokay.
“This is because the usual seats are not enough, since we have to practice social distancing, that’s why the Parliament administration made the decision,” he said.
Prime Minister’s Department (Legal Affairs) Minister Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan reported on Friday that in the one-day session in Parliament only government media such as RTM and Bernama could be present. – Bernama
