KUCHING, January 29: Only immediate family members can attend funerals in Sarawak during the state’s current Movement Control Order (MCO) and Conditional MCO (CMCO).
The chairman of the State Committee for Disaster Management (JPBN), Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, said family members should also inform district offices and the police about the funeral for crowd management.
“Guidelines for the funeral ceremony can be obtained from the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR),” he said at the daily press conference on COVID-19 here today.
Other than that, Uggah said that all kinds of social activities and gatherings, including weddings, parties, engagement ceremonies, prayers, tahlil, and birthday celebrations, were not allowed during MCO and CMCO.
Currently, CMCO applies throughout Sarawak until February 14, while Sibu is now under MCO.
Meanwhile, he said 179 positive cases were detected in Sarawak today, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 4,124, while 36 deaths have so far been recorded.
He also said that JPBN had introduced a community policing program in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19, especially in villages and longhouses.
The program, which involved community leaders, tribal chiefs, People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) personnel, military veterans, and police retirees, aims to raise awareness of the threat posed by COVID-19 and improve compliance. of standard operating procedures, he added.
Meanwhile, JPBN announced the implementation of Enhanced MCO at Kampung Sungai Ud and Kampung Sungai Ud Hilir in Dalat, Mukah from January 27 to February 9, following the increase in positive cases in the district. Called
