PUTRAJAYA: The grace period for renewal of driver’s licenses and motor vehicle licenses (road tax) has been extended until September 30, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said today.

Motorists had until August 31 to renew their licenses since the motion control order (MCO) was enforced in March.

Wee said that because the MCO had been extended through December 31 as announced yesterday, members of the public with expired licenses still have time to renew them within 30 days until September 30.

The motor license renewal waiver during the MCO was granted to avoid congestion at the counters of the relevant agencies.

The exemption allows members of the public to drive and use their vehicles during the MCO even if their license has expired, as long as the vehicle insurance is valid.

“Currently, the exemption for the renewal of licenses remains in effect as long as the 2020 Order for the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) remains in effect. Since the implementation of the recovery MCO, all JPJ counters are fully operational normally, ”he said.
