KOTA KINABALU: A man died while a woman suffered serious injuries after a mishap on the flyover near the airport here, around 10 pm on Tuesday (October 20).
The 51-year-old man identified as Jafri @ Jeffrey Pelasin was thrown from his car and landed in the highway divider while the woman, Helen Majain, 35, fell off the overpass along with the vehicle.
Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said the man is believed to have died at the scene after serious head injuries.
“The woman suffered multiple injuries, including internal injuries,” he said.
He said initial investigations found that the driver, Jafri, had lost control of his vehicle before crashing into the highway divider.
“The impact of the crash threw him out of the car and he landed in a ‘hanging’ position on the divider,” said ACP Habibi.
The woman had fallen off the overpass along with the vehicle.
“This case is being investigated under the Highway Transportation Act of 1987,” he said.
