KUALA LUMPUR: Women in Malaysia may rise to the post of prime minister one day, said Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
However, the former prime minister anticipates that this process could take some time before they can play more important roles in the country’s administration.
“We see this (prime minister) happening in developed nations, and we are also among the first to give leadership roles to women.
“Perhaps (at present) they will not become prime minister, but there are already (women) who occupy very high positions with great responsibilities. In fact, they have been doing a great job, ”she said on a talk show about women in development broadcast live on her official Facebook page today.
Dr. Mahathir said that today’s women are knowledgeable and rich in experience, making them important contributors to the nation-building process.
“(In fact), women make up the largest number of students in universities and also participate in many activities there, and some even persecute them abroad,” she said, adding that women also tend to take their tasks more in I laughed.
