PETALING JAYA: The Director General of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, has confirmed that the increase in Covid-19 cases in the last three days has been caused by a delay in the notification of cases, including detected positive cases. in 2020.

“There were also delays in reporting through the public health laboratory information system by registered private facilities such as private clinics and private hospitals,” he said.

Noor Hisham said the rapid increase in cases recently emerged from large-scale screenings in workplaces, close contacts and high-risk groups.

“However, late-reported cases have been addressed with necessary action on the ground by the relevant district health offices, such as isolation and treatment of positive cases, close-contact screening and active case detection. .

He thanked the private facilities that immediately reported the cases through Simka and MySejahtera users who self-reported after learning of their own Covid-19 results.

“The Ministry of Health will work with all parties on this issue so that late notification of cases can be handled immediately, to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Malaysia.”

More than 5,000 cases have been reported a day for three days in a row, and the latest figure today is 5,298 cases. The numbers for Friday and Saturday were new all-time highs, with 5,725 and 5,728 reported infections respectively.
