KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah upholds its principle that there is nothing more important than economic and political stability, says President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

“We can only jumpstart our economy if all leaders put politics, religion and race aside and work together to find a solution to rebuild this nation,” he said.

He said the King’s decision not to declare an emergency was something to be grateful for and urged all Warisan MPs to adhere to the ruling.

“We hope that all political leaders can work together to ensure that the nation can fight this Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a statement here on Monday (October 26).

Sabah’s former chief minister said that apart from communities, businesses are also severely affected by the pandemic.

“If you have any good and useful ideas to share on how to solve the problems faced, please do so,” he said.

Shafie also urged all leaders to come forward and help their constituents and contribute their part in this fight against the virus and the economic slowdown.

Thanking all Malaysians for their contributions to the nation in every way, including donations and standard operating procedures, he urged them to continue to do their part and to abide by the laws set by the authorities.

“Only then will we be able to move forward and rise to this challenge,” he added.

On Sunday (October 25), Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah decided that it was not necessary to declare a state of emergency in the country.

He reminded all politicians to put an immediate end to all forms of politicking that could disturb the stability of the country.

Sultan Abdullah and the Malaysian rulers had gone through the proposal to declare a state of emergency and felt that the government had managed to contain the Covid-19 pandemic effectively.

On Friday (October 23), Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had requested the proclamation of an emergency to combat the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
