A TRUCK struck a height barrier along Jalan Usaha at USJ 16, Subang Jaya, causing it to crash into a passing multipurpose vehicle (MPV) on Wednesday (March 10) morning.
The barrier has been hit for the umpteenth time.
It was learned that the driver of the minivan escaped with minor injuries.
Izzaham Idris, 55, a member of the USJ 12 Residents Association committee, said the height barrier was put in place more than a decade ago to prevent heavy vehicles from using the stretch.
He said there were gas pipelines under the road and that pressure from heavy vehicles could damage it.
“There are many signs to warn about the height barrier ahead, but some defiant motorists still try to force their heavy vehicles through. I am not sure that there are other reasons for such actions.
“The highway is a shortcut for motorists traveling between USJ 16 and USJ 12. There are alternative routes that are safe for heavy vehicles through Persiaran Kewajipan, but some heavy vehicle drivers still want to use the neighborhood roads, which is a shortcut, “he said. .
The Subang Jaya City Council could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
