‘LOWERED BY THIS CRISIS’

It is the first time that the total of a region exceeds the capital, although both are lower than their respective peaks.

Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson blamed cuts in hospital funds and years of austerity for the rise in hospital numbers.

He told The Guardian: “The fact that this crisis has inundated us now is making it clear that there are shocking disparities in our country and the way people and services to which they have access live.

“In Liverpool there are high rates of obesity, there is an elderly population, many people have mobility problems, these people will be the most affected by this virus.”

Mr. Anderson de Labor, whose wife works as a care assistant, has called for an investigation into whether the Liverpool Champions League loss to Atlético Madrid at Anfield caused an increase in coronavirus cases.

More than 52,000 fans saw the Reds collide in the last leg of 16, including 3,000 Atlético fans, many of whom had flown in from Spain for the March 11 crash.

The decision to continue the match has been widely criticized and Liverpool’s director of public health, Matt Ashton, will lead an investigation.

“ADVICE OF FUNDS ACCORDING TO”

Andy Burnham, the Labor mayor of Greater Manchester, also pointed to the funding and asked Boris Johnson to ensure that northern communities get financial aid to deal with the crisis.

He added: “These figures underscore the need for a security approach first as we move forward.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that the damage caused by the virus has been greater in the most disadvantaged communities.

London remains the UK area with the highest total number of cases at 24,828, while the North West is second at 20,125.

It occurs when the total death toll in the UK from the error reached 28,446 on Sunday, with 315 more deaths reported across the country in the past 24 hours.

KEEP YOUR DISTANCE

Cabinet Minister Michael Gove told Sunday’s daily press conference in Downing Street that social distancing measures will continue until a vaccine for covid-19 is found.

He said: “Ultimately, unless and until we have a vaccine, I suspect we will have to live with some degree of restriction due to the nature of the virus.

“But obviously we want, wherever possible, and consistent with public health measures, to restore people’s lives as close to normal as possible.”

He said the government will seek a “gradual approach” to remove blocking restrictions rather than a sudden return to “the old normal”, and that the relaxation had to be done in a “cautious way”.

NHS England national medical director Professor Stephen Powis said it was “really difficult” to know how the virus would develop in the months and years to come.

He said there was “hope” that a solution, be it a vaccine or medication, would be found sooner than expected 10 or 20 years ago, although it is “impossible to say when it will be.”

“But it is certainly true to say that we will have to adapt to a new normal until we get to that point.”
