SEREMBAN (Bernama): Nora Anne Quoirin’s family said they had received an email demanding ransom, according to a witness in the judicial proceeding on the cause of the teenager’s death.
Negri Sembilan Police Headquarters, Serious Crime Personnel Officer (D9), Superintendent Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, said he was briefed by ACP Nik Ezaner Mohd Faisal, who was the family police liaison officer.
“He said that the family of the missing teenager had received an email demanding two bitcoins (equivalent to 23,000 ringgit) as ransom,” said Supt Wan Azlan while testifying in the proceedings that began on the seventh day on Thursday (September 3).
Superintendent Wan Azlan said the status of the email was released the same night after Internet Protocol (IP) tracking showed it came from Virginia, United States, with the help of Interpol.
Meanwhile, witness number 13, Negri Sembilan’s Deputy Chief of CID (Investigation / Legal), Superintendent Lee Kui Lin, said that the investigative document on Nora Anne’s death was delivered to the Attorney General’s Office on August 29, more than two weeks after the body of the teenager was found on August 13 of last year.
“The research document sent had been completed. Our investigation with the statements of 91 witnesses, as well as 57 fingerprints taken to aid the investigations in forensic and pathological terms on the body, showed that there was no criminal element involved, ”he said.
The investigation carried out before the coroner Maimoonah Aid would involve 64 witnesses.
Nora Anne, 15, was found missing on August 4, a day after arriving with her family in Malaysia for a two-week vacation at a resort in Pantai, about 60 kilometers from the federal capital.
On August 13, Nora Anne’s body was found near a stream in a ravine about 2.5 km from the complex, following a large-scale search by authorities.
The investigation procedure will resume on Friday (September 4). – Bernama
