PETALING JAYA: Former Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman, whose claim that he had a simple majority to form a new state government triggered the political crisis that led to this month’s snap elections, did not appear in the multipurpose room Liba, where nominations were made for the Sungai Manila state seat.

Bernama reported this at the close of nominations for the 73 seats at 10 a.m. today.

Musa, whose name was left out of the Barisan Nasional candidate list announced by BN state chief Bung Moktar Radin, had said he was eager to contest the seat of Sungai Manila, one of 13 new seats in the parliamentary constituency of Liba.

“I’m going back to Sg Manila,” he had said in a Facebook post.

Musa had said in late July that he had enough support from 32 assembly members to form a simple majority in the 65-member state legislature.

However, he failed in his attempt to meet with the governor to provide the statutory statements that demonstrate his support.

Acting Prime Minister Shafie Apdal announced the dissolution of the state assembly on July 30 after a meeting with the governor, paving the way for elections to be held on September 26.

Shafie submitted his nomination papers to defend Senallang’s seat around 9:30 a.m.
