Shafie speaks to reporters after presenting Hari Raya’s gifts to state security forces.

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal has clarified that it is no longer necessary for the public to obtain permission if they want to travel the district.

However, he said it must be done with caution, stressing that only four people can travel in a single vehicle at a time.

Shafie had also reminded people to manage their shopping plans for the upcoming holiday season.
“There is no need to buy items every day. This will not only cause congestion on the road but also in shopping malls.
“I only buy from time to time. Try to manage your life. I only shop once a week, ”he told reporters when he met yesterday after presenting Hari Raya’s gifts to state security forces personnel at the Sabah State Administrative Center (PPNS).
Shafie said that public transportation vehicles (including taxis, buses, and planes) in the state can only fill 50 percent of their seats.
In view of this, he said that the State Government would analyze how it could help bus operators in the state that could be affected by the new directive.

He said that the State Government will seek comprehensive ways to allow public transport operators in the state to operate in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) stipulated by the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

“I know there are (bus operators) complaining.

Sometimes buses, for example from Kota Kinabalu to Menumbok or Kuala Penyu, if they only accommodate half the load (from the bus seats), they may not be able to cover the cost of oil.
The prime minister said he had discussed with AirAsia Group executive director Tan Sri Tony Fernandes about how to increase the number of domestic flights within Sabah.

He said the state government had also advised airlines to open more domestic routes during CMCO to allow them to cover operating costs, although the revenue earned was only half of normal revenue.

He said that the public transport sector should be managed in a systematic and orderly manner to meet the needs of people at the grassroots level, thus facilitating their movement during this period.

Shafie said border controls will continue to be stricter to safeguard the people of Sabah while ensuring that no foreign elements penetrate the nation’s borders.
When asked to comment on the Federal Government’s decision to allow Hari Raya’s visits on the first day of the celebration, Shafie said such activities should be under control.

During the event, more than 30 government agencies, ministries, government-linked companies (GLCs), and associations donated Hari Raya’s gifts to the nine state security agencies.
