PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of National Commerce and Consumer Affairs confirmed that no pork DNA was found in the mee curry sample taken from a restaurant in Subang Jaya, Selangor, following a claim that had gone viral saying the dish contained meat pork.

In a statement today, the director of the ministry’s compliance division, Iskandar Halim Sulaiman, said that laboratory testing and analysis by the Department of Chemistry found that the meat sample had chicken DNA.

“With the result of the analysis, the restaurant that was investigated under the Commercial Description Order (Definition of Halal) 2011 and the Commercial Description Order (Halal Certification and Marking) 2011, did not commit any crime under these laws,” he said.

Iskandar also called for consumers to be held accountable by not spreading fake news or unverified issues on social media, as this would be unfair and have a negative impact on stakeholders.

He said the ministry would continue to monitor the app to ensure halal compliance by food and beverage outlets with halal certification so as not to mislead consumers.
