Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has decided not to comply with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s request to declare a state of emergency.
The president, in a statement, also rebuked the deputies who are politicking and asked them not to proceed with any action that could threaten the stability of the government.
The statement that was released through the royal house’s comptroller, Ahmad Fadli Shamsuddin, came less than an hour after a meeting of Malaysian rulers. concluded in Istana Negara.
The meeting was to provide guidance to the Agong on his decision.
The statement noted that Muhyiddin had submitted a proposal to the king on Friday.
“The request is to implement a state of emergency under Article 150 (1) and the Emergency Proclamation Ordinance (Essential Powers) 2020 under Article 150 (2B) of the Federal Constitution to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
“After considering the request and discussing with the Malaysian rulers, as well as taking into account the situation in the country, Sultan Abdullah feels that the government has done well to handle the pandemic effectively.
“His Royal Highness believes in the ability of the Prime Minister’s government to continue to implement policies and enforce actions to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“Sultan Abdullah is of the opinion that, at the moment, it is not necessary for His Royal Highness to declare a state of emergency in the country or any part of it,” said Ahmad Fadli.
He added that the president also reminded politicians to stop politicizing and destabilizing the government.
Proponents of the emergency measure had said that it was necessary to combat Covid-19, but critics claimed that Muhyiddin was trying to hold onto power amid fears that rebels within his government could turn against him during the Budget vote. 2021 next month.

“Sultan Abdullah also opined that it was not necessary for the deputies to continue their irresponsible action that could threaten the stability of the current government.

“Those on the front lines desperately need the financial allocation to be able to carry out their duties smoothly,” said Ahmad Fadli.
Ahmad Fadli said that the ruler took cognizance of people’s concern over the growing cases of Covid-19 in the country and urged people to unite to fight the pandemic.
“His Royal Highness asked all people, regardless of their background and particular political ideology, to put aside their differences and disagreements and come together to help the government and authorities stop Covid-19 for their safety and welfare of the country that we love, “he said.
He also urged people to join him in praying for the country to succeed in ending the pandemic.
