Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the number of passengers will depend on the number of seats in a car.

PETALING JAYA: Starting tomorrow, more than two people can dine at a table, even in states that are still under the movement control order (MCO), Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said that the number of people at a table and the number of tables in a restaurant will be based on the size of the table.

Ismail also announced that more than two passengers will be allowed in a car across the country.

“It’s not two people in one car anymore,” he told a news conference.

He added that the number of passengers will depend on the number of seats in a car.

These are among the standard operating procedures agreed to by the National Security Council from tomorrow until March 4, he added.

Other SOPs provided include one on wedding ceremonies. Ismail said that marriage ceremonies can now be held in religious departments and mosques, with a maximum of 20 guests in the MCO states.

In MCO conditional states, there is no limit for guests as long as the 1 meter physical distance rule is followed with a capacity of 50% of the venue. As for non-Muslims, Putrajaya will announce the details soon, he said.

Conventions are not allowed in MCO states, but other states may run with 50% hall capacity.

As for open space wedding ceremonies, organizers must obey the SOPs as described on the NSC website, he added. However, all guests will need to register and take their temperature.

As for tourist and cultural activities, people in MCO areas cannot enter CMCO areas, he added.

Meanwhile, Ismail said that the Enhanced Motion Control (EMCO) order at SMK Sultan Idris Shah II in Gerik, Perak will run until March 1. EMCO was supposed to finish tomorrow.

The Ministry of Health has carried out 256 tests among students with four positive cases registered.

However, four new positive cases were registered on February 18. Therefore, a second test will be conducted again for all students.

However, the EMCO in two Sarawak towns, Kampung Sebako 1 and 2 in Lundu will end tomorrow as scheduled.

Ismail also said police arrested 463 people yesterday for crimes related to movement control.

Of that number, 440 were slapped with compound fines while 22 were arrested and one was released on bail.

Ismail said the crimes included failing to wear face masks, crossing districts or states without permission, and failing to provide contact tracing or recording materials.

A total of 3,562 compliance work teams were deployed to carry out controls in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks, among other places.

Ismail also said that police arrested 52 illegal immigrants and impounded seven vehicles under Op Benteng.

He added that 1,029 passengers had arrived through KLIA yesterday and are currently in mandatory quarantine.
