No more home quarantine for PCA travelers

KOTA TINGGI: The government will no longer allow travelers entering Malaysia under the Periodic Displacement Agreement (PCA) to be quarantined at home, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba.

He said this came after a Malaysian traveling back to the country through the PCA tested positive for Covid-19.

The PCA is a scheme agreed between Singapore and Malaysia to allow business and business travel between the two countries through the land border crossings at Johor-Singapore Causeway and Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.

Dr. Adham announced this at a press conference after attending the Sungai Rengit Health Clinic launch here yesterday.

“Since then, the patient has been isolated and treated.

“As such, those traveling under the PCA will no longer be able to self-quarantine at home, but will instead need to remain in quarantine centers,” he said.

He also added that those placed in hotel quarantine centers will bear the cost.

The 35-year-old traveled from Singapore on August 29 and was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on September 2.

Dr. Adham also said that since Malaysia and Singapore started the PCA and Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) on August 17, more than 3,000 people had entered the country.

“About 815 people entered Malaysia under the RGL while another 2,647 under the PCA.

“So far, no Covid-19 cases have been reported for those traveling back under the RGL,” he said.

When asked when the third and fourth phases of the Singapore border reopening would be announced, Dr. Adham said the matter was still under discussion.

He added that the standard operating procedure for the daily posting of workers between Malaysia and Singapore was also still under negotiation.

“We want to see if the RGL and the PCA can be implemented smoothly between the two countries,” he said.
