KUCHING: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (pix) explained that his “DG takut mati” (fear of death) insult directed at the Director General of the Department of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, when he debated the Supply Bill 2021 in Parliament today, was a ” reflecting the frustrations of leaders facing the Covid-19 virus pandemic challenges ”.

“My statement was not malicious. We all know that public officials do not have it easy. Everyone is working hard for the country and its people, but the deficiencies must be identified and improved, ”said Tiong, who is also chairman of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
As an elected representative, he said there was no reason why he could not honestly convey the dissatisfaction of the rank and file and bring constructive criticism to the table.
“It is clear to everyone that the pandemic is spiraling out of control. It is the people who are in dire straits. Our first consideration should be what is really happening to people, rather than doing something by itself. “
Tiong said he will re-affirm that there were human errors that led to negligence in preventing and controlling the pandemic.
For senior officials, it is even more crucial to ensure that all prevention decisions and best practices depend on the best interests for the well-being of the people and the country’s macroeconomics, he said.
“Let’s take the sprouts in Sabah as an example. As early as October, once a group was identified, the affected area should have been decisively cordoned off, with mass examinations carried out immediately, rather than allowing potential carriers to roam, “he said.
“After all, since many affected patients are asymptomatic, immediate blockade was all the more necessary,” he added.
Rather than holding daily press conferences, Tiong said that Dr. Noor Hisham should have focused entirely on pandemic prevention work and delivered the daily updates to the Chief Minister of Defense.
“With the pandemic out of control, if this is not resting on the CEO’s shoulders, why should he be the one holding a press conference every day?”
“At the end of the day, we all want to see more effective responses to the pandemic with a clear understanding of the front line.
