A vehicle involved in a RM3 million highway robbery was later found burned in Damansara, Petaling Jaya, on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed that there was no insider involvement in the theft of jewelry and gold worth more than RM3 million on the Sungai Besi (Besraya) highway here on Monday.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said that a special Kuala Lumpur CID team had been set up to investigate and examine the similarity of the case to several previous cases.

“The Kuala Lumpur police are investigating similar incidents in Perak and Penang to determine whether or not the same suspects were involved,” he told a news conference today.

He said police were still tracking the suspects and had already obtained certain information.

Saiful said eight people have given their statement, including an e-mailed driver who recorded the incident, but no new witnesses have appeared since.

On Monday, a salesman for a gold distribution company and his friend were injured in an ambush by three armed men who took their vehicle, jewelery and gold worth more than RM3 million and RM67,000 in cash.

Police said the victims were on their way from Kuchai Lama to Sungai Besi and were stopped by two four-wheel drive vehicles. Subsequently, the victim’s car was found on fire in Damansara, Petaling Jaya.
