PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has yet to open its borders to foreigners, including those employed here, but they are currently back in their home country, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said international borders here had been closed since the movement control order began.
“We still do not allow foreigners to enter Malaysia unless there is an approval from the Immigration Department.
“We have not received any proposals from Immigration to change the policy,” he said on Wednesday (November 4).
He also noted that Bangladeshi workers, who are among the 23 countries with long-term pass holders, are prohibited from entering Malaysia.
Ismail’s statement was in response to a report that Bangladeshi workers who had returned home for the holidays were unable to return to work in Malaysia due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the report, there are more than 25,000 of those workers who have called on the Bangladeshi government for swift action to be able to resume their work here.
The report also quoted Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary, Masud Momen, assuring workers that they would discuss the matter with Malaysia.
