KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organization says Budget 2021 is people-centered as it takes into account how the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted lives and livelihoods.

Malaysia Against Rape, Assault & Snatch Theft (Marah) founder Dave Avran said Budget 2021 establishes several social “safety net” initiatives to help those economically affected by the pandemic, especially the B40 group, by empowering the digital and gig economies.

Marah also praised the social and community aspects of the 2021 Budget.

“Marah commends the allocation of RM21,000 to build shelters for victims of domestic violence. This is really much needed. Second, the incentives to hire locals, the elderly, the disabled, ex-prisoners and recovered drug addicts are also very positive steps,” he said. said on Saturday (Nov 7).

He said the 2021 Budget was also aimed at creating new opportunities for job seekers and encouraging the private sector and government-linked businesses to do the same.

“Employers are now being offered a 20% incentive to promote job opportunities for the disabled, laid off workers, single mothers and the long-term unemployed.

“Industries that have relied heavily on foreign workers, especially construction and plantations, are now offered an incentive of 60% of the monthly salary, with 40% direct to employers and 20% to the local it replaces to the foreign worker, “he added.

Another piece of good news is RM2bil’s allocation to continue Socso’s Penjana Kerjaya program, which is expected to help 250,000 job seekers, Avran said.

“For the workers hired by Penjana Kerjaya, the maximum cost of training that employers can claim has been raised from RM4,000 to RM7,000. Therefore, these employees can now undergo a highly skilled or professional certificate program.

“Also, if you employ an older person, a former prisoner or a former drug addict, you are given additional tax breaks,” he said.

The allocation of RM20 thousand for former prisoners to obtain vocational training is also welcomed, with a National Employment Council acting to create more jobs and increase the skills and training of workers.

“Dubbed ‘MyStep’, the short-term employment program has an allocation of RM700 thousand, offering 50,000 contract jobs,” he said.

However, Avran said that what was not addressed in the 2021 Budget was housing, salaries and equipment used by defense and police personnel.
