Neymar and Marquinhos leave the hopes of the Red Devils in the Champions League on the edge

THE GRIM REAPER is standing over Manchester United as the Group of Death enters their final round of games.

It was labeled as such when the Red Devils took on last season’s Champions League runners-up, the Turkish champions and current Bundesliga title contenders.

It is the latter, RB Leipzig, who they must score a point from now, far away in Germany to pass.

The fact that they were beaten 5-0 here at Old Trafford early in the group will mean nothing with a tense nerves and reputation at stake.

It should never have been like that to have beaten both them and PSG to be in a strong position to qualify.

The prospect of the Europa League, especially for those who finished in Kazakhstan last season, will literally send chills down your spine.

But United spoiled this particularly after Martial missed a babysitter in the second half and when Ole Solskjaer failed to replace Fred at halftime when it was clear he was heading for a red card.

PSG led in the sixth minute through Neymar, a deflected shot from Rashford tied things at 32, but the visitors had the winning goal in 69.

A minute later, Fred was sent off, having somehow escaped a red card in the first half for upsetting an opponent, and the game ended with Neymar adding a third in injury time.

It had been a fast-paced first half full of action and incident.

When did Scott McTominay dream that he would make Neymar tremble?

Or does Fred actually think that he will ever be caught driving someone crazy just to get hired?

That incident occurred in the 21st minute and Italian referee Daniele Orsato will be able to explain what a ‘reserve nut’ is compared to a ‘red card nut’.

The United players claimed that Bruno Fernandes had received an elbow on the wing when in the middle of the field Leandro burst in the direction of Fred to give him some verbs.

Fred was not doing it and he rested his forehead on his opponents in a forward motion.

As always in these situations, the reaction was theatrical but it is a red card.

The referee reviewed it on the television screen next to the field, after looking it up, and decided that it was not crazy enough.

That denouement seemed to give United a boost, as up to that point they were dominated and PSG took the lead after just six minutes.

Kylian Mbappé charged down the right, cut inside and exchanged passes with Neymar before firing.

The ball deflected from Víctor Lindelof and Neymar pounced on him returning home at an angle from close range.

United’s draw had some luck with his shot from inside the box blocked by goalkeeper Keylor Navas until Danilo’s deflection beat him.

There was a sense of injustice in the PSG ranks and Paredes retaliated on Fred when he slipped and left his foot there to catch him.

Again it was considered yellow, this time the referee was right.

Then McTominay began to get under Neymar’s skin.

After executing a magnificent tackle on him midway, both players ended up on the floor as McTominay got up, took a step back, and leaned on Neymar’s ankle.

Only he knows if he was serious.

He then fouled him two more within a minute and the furious Brazilian followed him out of the pitcvh at half-time and reprimanded him. He would have his revenge.

But United had the momentum in the second half and should have led four minutes after the break, but somehow Anthony Martial managed to find the Stretford End instead of an open goal.
