JOHOR BARU (Bernama): A newborn girl placed in a plastic bag was found abandoned in a ditch in Jalan Kebun, Kampung Solok, near Tangkak on Monday (September 7), according to police.

Tangkak District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Fadhil Minhat said a man pulled the baby out of the ditch and reported the matter to the police around 6pm.

He added that the man said his son had informed him that he had heard the cries of a baby coming from the ditch as he was coming home from school.

“The man then went to the ditch, about 50 meters from his home, and found the baby, who was still crying, in a plastic bag,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (September 8).

Superintendent Fadhil said the man retrieved the baby, wrapped her in a piece of cloth, and then made a police report.

He said a medical officer confirmed that the baby weighed 2.6 kg and was healthy and had been admitted to Tangkak Hospital for a medical examination.

Superintendent Fadhil said police are trying to track down the person who had abandoned the baby. Those with information about the incident can contact the investigating officer at 016-522 0525 or 06-978 1222.
