New group found after the death of their index patient

PETALING JAYA: A new cluster of Covid-19 has been found in Sabah following the death of its index patient in Semporna, says Chief Health Officer Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“The index case is a Filipina, which is the 129th fatal case. A close contact examination was carried out and two cases were found in this group from Bakau. They are both a Malaysian and a Filipino who have been admitted to Tawau Hospital, ”he said in a statement yesterday.

A total of 109 people have been examined, of which 106 are still awaiting the results.

Dr. Noor Hisham said that the Sungai group, which originally involved healthcare workers from a private medical center in Kedah, recorded eight new cases.

He said only one additional case from Benteng’s LD group was reported. The group originated from two undocumented immigrants who were being detained at the Lahad Datu police headquarters.

Based on current Covid-19 statistics, the country recorded an additional 20 cases, with 51 recoveries. Of the 20 recently reported cases, three were imported.

“Of the 17 local broadcasts, 14 were from Malaysia,” said Dr. Noor Hisham.

The country also recorded one additional death, an 82-year-old Malaysian.

“He experienced symptoms of fever on September 4 but received no treatment. On September 7, it was discovered that she was a close contact in case 9,458 and case 9,547. The patient was admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah on September 9, but his condition worsened and he was transferred to the intensive care ward. He died on September 18 at 5.45 pm, ”he said.
