PETALING JAYA: A new Covid-19 group was detected today, identified as the Selamat group in Semporna, Sabah, said Director General of Health, Tan Sri, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) in a sentence.
A total of 118 people were tested and two tested positive for Covid-19 while the rest are awaiting test results.
“The index case is that of a 32-year-old local woman who contracted the virus on September 14 when she was admitted to Tawau Hospital for a premature delivery. After active case detection, we discovered another positive case of Covid-19 which was the doctor treating the index case, ”said Noor Hisham.
Investigations are still ongoing to find out how the index case contracted the virus. Meanwhile, the group and the situation there are being closely monitored.
Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country continues to rise to the five-figure mark, to 10,052 cases as of noon today.
Today 21 new cases have been reported. Of these, five are locals who contracted the virus from abroad. Two returned from New Zealand, one from India, one from Pakistan and the other from China.
The remaining 16 contracted the virus locally; 15 of which are local and one foreigner.
Yesterday a total of 15 cases were allowed to return home, bringing the total number of recoveries to 9,250.
The number of active cases is now 674.
Thirteen patients are in intensive care and two require respiratory assistance. The death toll remains at 128, 1.27% of all cases.
