New Covid-19 cluster detected in Johor that involves the ship’s crew

PUTRAJAYA: A new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Orkim cluster, has been detected in Johor involving a ship docked in Pasir Gudang port, says the Health Ministry.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said 30 people who make up the ship’s crew have been tested for Covid-19, with two testing positive.

“The first case in this group is a member of the Indonesian national crew. He had registered in Singapore on September 10.

“The patient experienced fever, cough, respiratory problems, diarrhea, and vomiting since September 13, but did not inform his employer.

“He signed on September 17 and only went to receive treatment at a private clinic on September 22. He was then referred to Permai Hospital in Johor, where he tested positive for Covid-19,” Dr. Noor Hisham said in a statement on Friday. (September 25).

A review by other crew members found a second positive case, which is also Indonesian.

The two positive cases, aged 41 and 28, are receiving treatment at Enche ‘Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital.

Dr. Noor Hisham said the source of the infection is still under investigation.

He said four people are still waiting for their test results, while another 24 have tested negative.

“Preventive measures such as sanitation and disinfection work have been carried out on the ship,” said Dr Noor Hisham.
