PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has identified a new Covid-19 cluster in Selangor detected in the Semenyih immigration detention depot.
They are a foreign detainee and two Malaysian immigration officers.
Tan Sri Health Director General Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement released today that the detainee who was scheduled for deportation to the home country tested positive on August 27.
To date, there are three cases under this new group called DTI Semenyih 2.
The two immigration officers had a history of escorting the index case to a clinic for the virus.
The Ministry of Health is still investigating the source of infection and active case detection and close contact evaluations of the index case are still ongoing.
“As of September 4, a total of 269 people were examined, 265 in Selangor and the remaining four in Negeri Sembilan,” he said today in a statement.
The country reported 11 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the national count to 9,354.
Of the 11 new cases reported today, seven were imported cases involving five foreigners and two Malaysians.
The remaining four cases occurred through local broadcasts involving three Malaysians and one foreigner who is detained in the Beranang Temporary Detention Center in Selangor and who was scheduled to be returned to his country of origin.
The three Malaysians who tested positive today were detected in Kedah under the Telaga group, where eight positive cases have been reported to date.
A total of four cases are being treated in the intensive care unit where three patients require respiratory assistance.
Today no new deaths were reported and therefore the death toll remains at 128.
Active cases number 165 cases, bringing the total number of active infections to 9,385.
